Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Understand and be able to describe the controversies surrounding dense breast legislation
- Learn how a program of screening sonography can supplement screening mammography
- Develop a strategy for incorporating supplemental breast ultrasound into a practice
- Understand the myriad of issues that come into play with regard to perceiving (or not perceiving) subtle signs of breast cancer on a mammogram
- Modify viewing habits to decrease reading errors
- Gain an understanding of new technologies on the horizon for use in breast imaging, including PEM, CEDM, I-125 radioactive seed localizations, and functional MR
- Have a better understanding of radiological and pathological correlation after breast biopsy, as well as learn or refresh one’s learning of how to manage high risk lesions
- Understand the benefits and current data regarding 3D mammography and Digital Breast Tomosynthesis
- Develop a strategy for implementing breast tomosynthesis in practice
- Learn about the recent updates in the BI-RADS MRI lexicon and reporting guidelines
- Discuss the implications of the BI-RADS changes in the assessment of masses, NME, and foci
- Develop a management approach to findings beyond masses, NME, and foci
- Be well-versed in identifying and delineating suspicious breast lesions on screening and diagnostic mammographic studies
- Learn and apply fundamental principles of percutaneous biopsy under stereotactic guidance
- Develop facility with correlating pathologic results with imaging findings to correctly assess which patients need additional surgical intervention
