Caregivers, students or already tenured, are eager for advice on how to better manage families. This cannot be learned, or little, in training. How to deal with aggressiveness, anger and anguish in families? How to understand these feelings? How to respond to it to help families, while taking its place and its function of caregiver?
Different themes are discussed: ambivalence, caring for children, communication, support, death requests, telling the truth, silence, defense mechanisms … Deciphering and analyzing the emotions of families is another way of understanding palliative care because it is these motions that can put caregivers in difficulty.
The author relates very realistic interviews with the families, based on her experience, with for each a didactic analysis and key messages in the form of boxes, allowing to learn or to deepen her practice as a medical caregiver or paramedical.
