IR Basics: Interventional Oncology – Vascular Therapy
- The overall goal of this activity is to describe the procedural, periprocedural and post-procedural specifics of successful transhepatic chemoembolization and to increase learner medical knowledge regarding the administration of Y-90 for treatment of live malignancies.
- Originally presented at SIR 2017 Fellows Spring Practicum
- Expires Dec. 1, 2020
ITEM DETAILS:
This course is directed towards therapeutic options for hepatocellular carcinoma with focus on liver directed therapy including TACE and Y-90; procedural techniques, patient selection, periprocedural care and clinic follow up regards to chemoembolization and therapy planning and dosimetry of Yttrium-90 microsphere administration.
This program is designed to meet the educational needs of interventional radiologist, interventional oncologist, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other physicians at all levels with special interest in tumor ablation.
The presentations in the on-demand activity were originally presented at the SIR 2017 Fellows Spring Practicum and includes the following:
- Triaging Therapeutic Options in HCC Patients
- Chemoembolization: How I Do It
- Y90 Radioembolization: How I Do It
- Intra-Arterial Therapy – TACE versus Y90 Lessons Learned
- IO Complications: TARE, TACE Cases
After purchasing access to this educational activity, you will be directed to the SIR Learning Center to participate in the activity and obtain your certificate. To receive CME credit for this enduring activity, participants must watch the video and score 70% or better on the post-activity exam. Participants will have three opportunities to score 70% or better.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this on-demand activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging system and how it pertains to triage of patients with HCC.
- Recognize hepatic arterial anatomy variants and options for reducing non-target embolization
- Cite to properties of Y-90 and principles of administration
- Distinguish between the use of TACE and Y-90 in the setting of PV thrombosis
