Harvard Comprehensive Otolaryngology update 2023
Comprehensive Otolaryngology Update 2023
The Harvard Comprehensive Otolaryngology Update 2023 is a Continuing Medical Education (CME) course designed to help otolaryngologists meet their practice needs. The course is designed to address practice gaps and educational needs of general otolaryngologists. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to identify aerosol-generating procedures in an otolaryngology practice, apply policies and procedures in your clinical practice to deliver effective and safe otolaryngologic care in the era of COVID-19, define the phenotypes and endotypes of chronic rhinosinusitis, and discuss the role of biologics in the treatment of chronic sinusitis.
The course will also help you develop a tailored treatment plan by applying the knowledge you acquire about endotypes and phenotypes of CRS, interpreting paranasal sinus imaging, identifying surgical anatomy based on imaging and intra-operative landmarks, and recognizing anatomic variants that may increase the risk of operative complications. You will learn how to define the role of intra-operative navigation during endoscopic sinus surgery, select the appropriate surgical tools and devices such as balloon-sinus dilation, tissue spacers and packing material to improve outcomes, recognize intra-operative complications during endoscopic sinus surgery, and develop plans to safely handle them.
In addition, the course will cover work-up of patients presenting with sleep-disordered breathing, ordering appropriate testing, and recognizing the role of drug-induced sleep endoscopy. You will also learn how to discuss surgical treatment options for patients with OSA based on the understanding of airway anatomy and areas of collapse as determined by office examination and drug-induced sleep endoscopy leading to OSA. Furthermore, the course will cover the work-up of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma with an unknown primary and recognize the role of PET scan, define the role of HPV in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma including prognosis, and impact on treatment choice and algorithm.
The schedule of the course includes sessions on various topics by renowned experts in the field of otolaryngology. The course will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, and will cover topics like Covid-19 and Aerosol Generating Procedures in the ENT Clinic, Surgical Anatomy of the Sinuses, Sinus Imaging, Epistaxis Management, Chronic Rhinosinusitis, Surgical Pearls for Frontal Sinus Surgery, Management of Benign Sinonasal Neoplasms, ESS: Management of Intra-Operative Complications, Smell and Taste Dysfunction – Evaluation, Otolaryngologist Work-Up of Sleep Disordered Breathing, Role of Nasal Surgery in OSAS, Office Procedures to Treat Snoring, Soft Palate Surgery for OSAS, Upper Airway Stimulation for OSAS, and more.
