Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
- Perform a SPORTS US examination of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle-foot as recommended by the AIUM Practice Guidelines for the Performance of the MSK US Examination
- Perform and appropriately document (eg, capture, label, save, and transfer images; generate a report) shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle-foot procedures
- Describe the advantages and disadvantages of needle tracking using an in-plane versus out-of-plane approach, and provide clinical examples of when each approach may be beneficial
- Use ultrasound guidance for muscle and nerve chemodenervation preocdedures such as botulinum toxin injections and peripheral nerve blocks
- Employ techniques for muscle and nerve identification using ultrasound
- Review the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes most frequently used in physiatric ultrasound (US)
- Be familiar with the procedural and corresponding documentation requirements for using these codes
- Understand how to properly code for off-label and unlisted procedures
