Pain Management (On-demand)
- Activity centers on multiple aspects of pain management and IR
- Originally presented at the SIR 2015 Annual Scientific Meeting
- Expires Sept. 21, 2018
ITEM DETAILS:
Using a case-based review format, this activity centers on multiple aspects of pain management and interventional radiology. Cases are presented where an IR procedure was performed specifically for pain control, including but not limited to spinal procedures, embolization with the intent of pain control and ablation procedures (thermal and chemical) for pain management. Cases are also presented describing different techniques used to improve peri- and intraprocedural pain management during IR procedures, including the treatment of complications arising from these pain management measures. Discussions center around novel techniques described in the recent literature, specific technical considerations and opportunities for further research in the area of pain management.
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of interventional radiologists and other physicians at all levels with special interest in pain management.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the role of IR procedures used in the primary management of painful pathologic processes.
- Explain the management algorithms used in the peri- and intraprocedural periods for pain control in patients undergoing IR treatments.
- Identify the complications that may arise from IR procedures directed towards alleviation of pain and the methods used to treat such complications.
- Discuss specific techniques used in the IR treatment of patients with pain and future research opportunities.
